Project Description:
The intent of this exciting project has been to construct a two-story structure covering approximately 10,000sf per floor inside the Hanger-5. The facility will be occupied by PACAF's intelligence squadron including several high-ranking officers and commanders. The structure is built on concrete slab on grade supported by structural steel columns, beams, joists, and metal decking. The partitions are mostly painted gypsum wall boards with some areas built with CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit). The interior spaces have mostly acoustical ceilings, carpet, wood doors, and automated air conditioning and fire protection systems. The first floor has a number of individual office spaces, a large briefing room with theatre-like seats with audio/visual devices, a conference room, break room, work shop, and other utility rooms. The second floor is a large open space with individual work stations utilizing modular furniture.
The project is unique in that it's a building within a building. Security requirements are very extensive for the communication system, access control and surveillance. The multiple security communication lines (SIPRNT, NIPRNT, JWICS) and the HVAC system (chillers, DDC), and primary power had to be tied into the existing systems at Hanger-3 next door. This presented many challenges, but ASI was able to overcome them and the customer is extremely pleased with the project outcome.
